One of my all-time favorite races is back – in August instead of its historical October running. I have a touch choice to make between this and the Apple Festival 8k which is on the same day, but I think I’ve made it. I’ve always run the long race in this pair. It’s nothing but uphill the first half but much of the trail running on single track is switchbacks so it makes the elevation gain more tolerable. And once you crest, as the saying goes, it’s all downhill from here.
THE SCOOP ON THE BLACK & BLUE
The Southcliff Black & Blue Classic returns with a new date, Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 9:00am. Runners who have raced at Southcliff before can expect much of the same as past years, with unique courses on private roads and trails, amazing views, post-race lunch and beer, and the most generous awards in the area.
The race names are based on ski slope classifications. The Black Course is the hardest at 6.5 miles while the easier Blue Course is 2.6 miles. Both courses feature the first mile on road with the remaining on the groomed trails that wind through the Southcliff community.
The Black Race will start at 9:00 AM and the Blue Race at 9:05 AM at the gatehouse.
The event is capped at 100 runners per race. Don’t miss is, there are some amazing prizes.
The Adirondack chair will be awarded to the first male and female finisher on the Blue (2.6mi) & the bench will go to the first male and female finisher of the Black (6.5 mi). These were made by Lang Hornthal of Appalachian Designs.
