Laid back, easy-going. Come on out on any Wednesday and sign a waiver once, then check in on future Wednesdays on the iPad out on the patio where all the friendly runners and dogs are doing the pre-race mingle.
Definitely for all abilities and dog-friendly. Speedsters, runners, joggers, walkers – everyone is welcome.
Choose your distance – up to 4.2 miles.
The course goes out the somewhat-secret back entrance/exit to Highland at the dead-end of Gashes Creek road. It’s a gated small gravel road and since Gashes Creek Road is a dead-end and travels down into the high side of the Western North Carolina Nature Center, there’s virtually no traffic on this section (but it is mostly downhill which means mostly uphill on the return). After passing through the Nature Center you turn right on Azalea Road. If you’re going to run the full 4.2 miles you’ll run to the Soccer Complex and run around the perimeter of the complex and head back on Azalea Road and up Gashes Creek Road. I decided to run 3 miles and just watched my Garmin for the 1.5 mile mark where I would turn around. It was right at the entrance to the Soccer Complex.
If you haven’t been to Highland, it’s in east Asheville near Beverly Hills and River Ridge.
